About the destination
San José Island
San José Island is one of the most important islands of the Gulf of California Islands National Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1995. This island stands out for its rocky cliffs, white sandy beaches, and hidden coves, which provide shelter to numerous marine species and coastal birds.
The landscape of San José is breathtaking: from above, you can see deep, semi-circular bays, ideal for seabird nesting and for snorkeling and kayaking. Its coasts are dotted with small islets and rock formations, which serve as temporary homes for sea lions and juvenile California sea lions.
Among its most iconic attractions are its beaches and bays, known for their white sand and calm waters, perfect for camping and enjoying the marine ecosystem. San José Island is not only a natural refuge but also a destination that combines scenic beauty, biodiversity, and unique experiences in the Sea of Cortez.
